Manchester United wants to make sure Ander Herrera doesn’t go anywhere.
The Daily Star is reporting that Manchester United is working on signing midfielder Ander Herrera to a new lucrative contract after a great season in 2016-17.
With Herrera drawing attention from Spanish giants Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, United have to make sure they take care of him with a new deal.
After being misused under former manager Louis van Gaal, Herrera played great football for Jose Mourinho last year– who clearly knows how to use him.
One thing is for sure, Herrera has become one of Mourinho’s favorite players with the way he played for him last season.
Manchester United reportedly plan on giving Herrera a new contract that will pay him £175,000 a week, which will keep him around until 2021.
I have to say, it’s great to hear that Herrera is happy because under Van Gaal it seemed as though his future was in doubt with reports coming out that he wasn’t happy.
Keeping Herrera is huge because you can easily argue that he outplayed superstar Paul Pogba last season after being voted Manchester United’s player of the year.
After United take care of Herrera, they still need to find a defensive midfielder, a pacy winger that can whip in some crosses as well as a No. 10 that can replace Wayne Rooney now that he’s back at Everton.
The Reds have plenty of work to do.
